Russell Island is part of Redland City, Queensland and the largest of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.  Has a length of 8 kilometres and width of nearly 3 kilometres and is situated between North Stradbroke Island and the mainland and was first settled in 1866.

The population at an estimate in 2017 is around 4000-4500 if you take into consideration those that use Russell Island as their base (home) and spend time throughout the year either caravanning or on their yachts elsewhere.

We have a range of facilities and services that include and RSL and Bowls Club with restaurants.  A shopping centre that includes a Supa IGA, a pharmacy, take-away, chinese restaurant, post office, bakery and hair dresser.

We have a police station, ambulance centre, public swimming pool, primary school. A child care centre (open 2018), hardware store, petrol station, white goods store, vet, pet store, cafe’s. A health store, medical centre, pathology collection centre.

Several real estate offices, motel, B&B’s, short term stay houses,  plant nursery, BMX park, half court basketball, half pike skateboard, play and recreation parks, several boat ramps. Ferry service that travels approximately every half hour from early morning to late evening, vehicular barge service that travels in daylight hours approx each hour, our community centre and opp shop, men’s shed (open in 2018), sports grounds, recreation hall, churches, tennis courts, craft and mosiac centre, many groups and clubs with a variety of activities.
